The David Joel Quartet CD Release (available here)
The David Joel Quartet released their first studio recoding, Sprial Sky, at a CD relase party hosted by Chris' Jazz Cafe on Saturday, March 17th. The disc includes many new all original compositions ranging in style from straight ahead jazz, rock, fusion, funk and gospel which the group weaves into a unique and aesthetic style all their own.
Composer/guitarist David Joel has performed throughout the east coast, in Europe and Japan, and is joined by some of Philadelphia's finest jazz musicians: John Stenger - keys, Paul Gehman - bass and Dan Monaghan - drums.
The group fires up with creative and energetic original compositions and improvisations reminiscent of Weather Report, The Pat Metheny Group and Jimi Hendrix, the likes of which you'd have to travel to New York to experience.

"The Philly jazz scene has long had it's
share of notables and guitar man Joel is the latest to add his name to that
crew. With some of the crack hitters in town in tow giving a well rounded
picture of what's going on in jazz in those parts these days, this is a crisp
outing from an educated educator that hasn't let all that teaching cramp his
playing. Solid contemporary electric jazz that is right on the money."
"David Joel, a passionate, create and sensitive guitarist leads this quartet thorugh a mix of contemporary jazz melody and harmony. Joel has a strong musical base...well writeen comtemporary jazz songs, solid playing and lots of potential." (read the entire review)
Paul J. Youngman, Jazz Review
